So is ROC somehow 'simulated' in the 'processed' window, but requires a new full scan before it can be truly applied to the final version? I realize that many setting changes require a rescan, but in all other cases I've seen, hitting 'redraw' initiates a new PREVIEW scan (such as Scan Imange Enhancer, or Analog Gain). I've tried scanning 14-bit and saving to NEF (with ROC=0), then opening in Adobe Camera Raw, but nothing I try can achieve the results obtained by re-scanning with ROC=5. If ROC is 'post processing', then I should be able to achieve the same end-result by processing the ROC=0 scan. HOWEVER - If I do the final scan with ROC set to 0, there is no processing I can carry out that will have the same effect as setting ROC to 5. This suggests to me that 'ROC' is (as suggested by the 'enable post processing' title of the toolbox entry) a 'post processing' step that is entirely done in software. I can slide ROC back to 0, hit 'redraw' again, and my image reverts back to the original state - all without another preview scan of the slide (this is the crucial part of my question). I click 'Redraw' in the tool palette, and I immediately see a drastic change to my image in the 'processed' window.

I decide that I want to see what 'ROC' will do to my scan, so I now slide ROC from 0 to 5. After about 30 seconds, I see my preview in the 'processed' window. Let me define a scenario - 'Enable Digital ICE' checked 'Enable Post Processing' enabled Digital ROC set to 0 Digital GEM set to 3. I am puzzled, however, by 'Digitil ROC' - Nikon's 'Restoration Of Color' feature that is part of the Nikon Scan 4.0.

I've spent a week scanning my old slides, with generally great success (3 boxes so far, 20+ to go!).

I was able to get my 5 year old Coolscan V-ED working on my Windows 7-64 laptop thanks to posts in this forum (Steel Chn is the poster).
